LOCAL WISDOM AS A SOLUTION TO THE GLOBAL CRISIS AN IBD PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

This study examines the role of local wisdom as a strategic cultural resource in responding to global crises including environmental degradation moral decline social fragmentation and weakening social identity in modern society. Rapid globalization and modernization have reshaped human behavior encouraging exploitative attitudes toward nature risin g individualism and the erosion of traditional cultural values. In this context local wisdom emerges as an alternative framework rooted in community traditions emphasizing harmony among human society and the natural environment. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research by reviewing books scientific journals and academic publications related to local wisdom global crises and the perspective of Basic Cultural Studies. Data were analyzed through content analysis to identify key concepts patterns and relationships between cultural values and contemporary challenges. The findings indicate that elements of local wisdom such as mutual cooperation deliberation consensus customary norms and traditional ecological practices function as cultural values that strengthen social cohesion moral integrity and environmental sustainability. Practices including sasi in Maluku and subak in Bali demonstrate that customary regulations effectively manage natural resources in sustainable ways. Fur thermore local wisdom strengthens cultural resilience by enabling communities to filter adapt and selectively integrate external cultural influences without losing identity. From the perspective of Basic Cultural Studies integrating local wisdom into education supports cultural awareness ethical sensitivity character formation and social responsibility among students. The refore empowering local wisdom through education cultural policy and community participation is essential for developing sustainable human centered solutions to global crises faced by contemporary society.
