ANCIENT MESOPOTAMIA RELIGIOUS TRADITIONS AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON RELIGIOUS MODERNITY

This study examines the religious traditions of ancient Mesopotamia and analyzes their influence on the formation and development of modern religiosity. The research is motivated by the need to understand religion as a historical and dynamic phenomenon in which ancient belief systems continue to shape contemporary religious concepts, practices, and worldviews. This study employs a qualitative approach using a historical-descriptive research model. Data were collected through an extensive literature review of primary and secondary sources, including ancient Mesopotamian religious texts, historical documents, and recent scholarly studies. The data were analyzed descriptively and comparatively to identify patterns of continuity, transformation, and reinterpretation of religious concepts across different historical periods. The findings indicate that Mesopotamian religious traditions played a significant role in shaping fundamental religious ideas such as divine authority, sacred law, cosmological order, and ritual practices. These concepts influenced later religious traditions, particularly the Abrahamic religions, and continue to persist in modern religious expressions, although in transformed forms shaped by social, political, and intellectual developments.
