Abstract

Legal clinical education is an approach to legal learning that emphasizes direct practice through social interaction and community service. In the context of indigenous communities, legal clinical education can be an important tool for strengthening community legal capacity and safeguarding their customary rights amidst the dynamics of regional autonomy. This article aims to develop a legal clinical education model relevant to the needs of indigenous communities in the era of regional autonomy, with a focus on a participatory, local wisdom-based, and collaborative approach between legal education institutions, local governments, and customary institutions. This study uses qualitative methods with a descriptive analytical approach. The results show that the indigenous community-based legal clinical education model is able to increase legal awareness, strengthen community bargaining power in dispute resolution, and serve as an instrument of social empowerment at the local level. These findings are expected to serve as a reference in the development of a more inclusive legal curriculum based on social practice and community service in Indonesia.
