Indonesian national education aims not only to foster the intellectual life of the nation but also to shape students' character with noble morals. However, the implementation of character education in practice often encounters obstacles, necessitating a profound and contextual conceptualization. This study aims to examine the concept of character education according to Buya Hamka, an Indonesian scholar and thinker, and analyze its relevance to the National Education Goals as outlined in Law Number 20 of 2003. The method employed is qualitative literature study with a philosophical-hermeneutic approach, focusing on Hamka’s works and supporting literature. The findings reveal that Hamka's concept of character education centers on the formation of insan kamil (the complete human being), integrating intellect, heart, and action, with noble morals rooted in the values of monotheism as its foundation. This concept holds significant and substantive relevance to the National Education Goals, particularly in shaping character and noble morals, and provides an ethical-spiritual framework to strengthen the character dimension in the national education system. Consequently, Hamka’s thought can serve as a philosophical foundation to enrich and contextualize character education in Indonesia.
